Stepping into the limelight through a truly global beauty pageant for the first time in the country, Sri Lanka will play host to the Dulux Ambiance Miss Intercontinental 2016 conceptualised by Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts and powered by EGB and Litro Gas Lanka tomorrow (16).
The pageant which will be held at the Stein Studios, Ratmalana from 6 p.m. onwards has brought together a fusion of local and international artists making it a unique event overall. Celebrating the pageants 45th anniversary, the international pageant will be performed under a ‘Fairy Tale’ themed finale bringing together beauties from 63 countries. The pageant has already begun with contestants competing for mini titles during the two weeks leading to the Grand Finale.
Accompanied by family members, contestants have travelled across Sri Lanka, visiting the islands favourite tourist hotspots and historical sites and engaged in adventure activities courtesy of concept partners Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts.
The finale however will consist of five main segments, Best National Dress, Best Body, Miss Congeniality, Miss Photogenic and Biona Miss Beautiful, there will also be a Miss Popularity contest that ran on social media. The final round will have the judges choosing a contestant from each continent (Europe, Asia and Oceania, Africa, North America and South America).
The versatile of panel of judges flying in for the pageant will consist of former and reigning beauty queens, Grammy nominated artists, well known musicians and renowned figures from the world of international pageants and beauty.
The panel will consist of the CEO for Miss Intercontinental Europe Detlef Tursies, Miss Intercontinental 2010 Maydelise Columna, reigning Miss Intercontinental 2015 Valentina Rasulova, Dr. Yasar Sariguel Chief Surgeon for the aesthetic beauty clinic Lacomed in Berlin, celebrated television host and actor Carlos McConnie, 2016 Grammy Nominee Jim Beanz and British singer/song writer and Reggae DJ, Apache Indian.
Sri Lankans will be privy to a performance by international artiste and Grammy nominee Jim Beanz, Apache Indian whose extremely popular for his hit ‘Boom-Shak-A-Lack’, both of whom are also part of the panel of judges, together with Destiny.
Renowned local dancing maestro Chandana Wickremasinghe and Javin Thomas will set the stage alight, while local drumming outfit Naadro who will perform a few specially curated acts for the show.
The event will also mark the 20th anniversary of the association between popular choreographer Torsten Galts with the Miss Intercontinental pageant.
The after party for the pageant, which is only for invitees, sponsors and contestants, will be spiced with performances by Apache Indian and an amazing lineup of local DJs.

Renowned Sri Lankan beautician Ramani Fernando and her team, will take on the challenge of hair and makeup aspects of the contestants at the Dulux Ambiance Miss Intercontinental 2016 pageant.
Starting out as a trainee in London’s renowned Gerrard London/Martin Gold in the ‘70s Ramani is now the founder of 14 salons in Sri Lanka and also training academies in Colombo, Kandy and Negombo, which are front runners.
With a carefully selected team of 25 makeup artists and hair stylists from her salons, personally trained by herself, Ramani Fernando is excited about the prospect of being a part of the world of international pageantry. The sheer number of contestants, from close to 70 countries, is a challenge the beauty legend is ready to take on.
“I am excited about the number of contestants who will participate in the event. They will have different styles, skin tones, hair colour and backgrounds. The experience will be very different in comparison to the local pageants held in the country, simply because of the wide range of contestant that we will be prepping. The opportunity to partner with the Miss Intercontinental organisation is one which will show the world what Sri Lanka is all about and what our talented people could do,” says Ramani.
