Working to make a difference in the communities it serves, the David Pieris Group, as part of its ongoing welfare initiatives, donated computers with internet and other modern facilities for the computer laboratory and equipment for the science laboratory of Sampoor Maha Vidyalaya in the Trincomalee District.
This project was implemented by the David Pieris Group in collaboration with Sri Lanka Navy personnel in the area with a view to elevating the level of technical education among underprivileged students in the once war-torn Sampoor. This ongoing initiative by the David Pieris Group will be in three stages. As the second stage of the project, the company will construct a toilet complex for the village, while under the third stage, women who are sole breadwinners will be provided with skills training and infrastructure to start their own businesses.
To mark the opening of the facility, the Group also donated school bags to the primary school students.
Speaking at the opening ceremony David Pieris Motor Company General Manager Jayantha Ratnayake, said, “We cannot emphasise enough on the importance of education in building a strong and productive economy and nation. We believe it is important that all children have equal access to education and the facilities needed to learn…the best return on our investment would be to see these children succeed in life”.
