Members of the SJMS Welfare and CSR Society recently re-visited Sinnakkulam Vidyalayam situated on the rugged outskirts of Thoppur in the Eastern Province.
With the road leading to this school being in an unfavourable condition for ordinary vehicles, the CSR team had to rely on the SL Army for transportation.
The purpose of the visit was to hand over another batch of school essentials to the 65 children attending this small primary school – a basic school that has been constructed for the benefit of the families resettled in this difficult area.
The livelihood of most of these families is chena cultivation. This being a highly uncertain and irregular means of income, the children attending this school are in dire need of assistance from benevolent persons to equip themselves with writing material, shoes, etc. The SJMS Welfare and CSR Society’s prime objective is to facilitate the uplifting of the literacy level of children from such impoverished families, partly by way of providing them these essential materials so that no child will be deprived of basic education.
The Society wishes to thank the 5th Regiment of the Sri Lanka Artillery for having facilitated this program.
