The Cinnamon Nature Trails influenced by Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts conducted a week long clean-up of the Hiriwaduna Reservoir, found close to Cinnamon Lodge Habarana and Chaaya Village Habarana.

The Cinnamon Nature Trails’ naturalists along with the villagers of the community collaborated in a joint effort to clean-up the reservoir which was being covered by the growth of water hyacinth.

The massive growth of this invasive species was inhibiting the lifestyle of the local villagers and preventing them from fishing, farming, accessing water and travelling across the reservoir.

Following the removal of the overgrowth, members of the community have been able to access water with ease once again and are able to continue with their day-to-day activities.

Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts Ecotourism and Special Projects Head Chitral Jayatilake stated: “Nature Trails and JKH strive to positively impact communities, especially in the areas where we operate. Our team will continue to offer the village community around Habarana, our support and assistance wherever possible.”
