Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC is at the forefront of several national programs to help create awareness regarding HIV and AIDS whilst conducting programs that also deal with reducing stigma and discrimination issues. Managing Director/CEO Kishu Gomes shared his sentiments regarding the current issue. “Despite Sri Lanka being referred to as a comparatively low HIV and AIDS prevalent country; based on the increasing number of new infections reported, the trend is still very alarming and hence it shouldn’t be taken lightly that the number of infections are most likely going to keep increasing, and might escalate the situation to an uncontainable level,” commented Gomes.
Nearly 200 contestants participated at the awards ceremony which was presided by US High Commission Deputy Chief of Mission William Weinstein. Several contestants between the age group of 6 and 65 years were awarded prizes based on two themes involving the prevention of HIV and AIDS, and the reduction of social stigma and discrimination. Majority of contestants were from outstation.
