The Brandix Group has been felicitated with a Token of Appreciation by the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) for supporting the institution by organising a series of blood donation campaigns in various areas of the country.

Brandix’s 2010 blood donation programme conducted in October and November, resulted in donations by 2,000 associates and was the largest programme by a single entity in the year, the NBTS said. The Group’s contribution in 2010 exceeded that of its previous year by nearly 600 pints.

“Brandix associates have demonstrated their commitment to the wellbeing of others through generous and compassionate contributions to many social initiatives including blood donation campaigns,” Ishan Dantanarayana - Chief People Officer (CPO) of the Brandix Group said. “Their response to the blood donation programme of 2010, was unprecedented.”

Representatives from Brandix, including associates from Brandix Denim Plant and Brandix Textiles – the two largest contributors to the campaign, and officials from the NBTS were present at the presentation of the Token of Appreciation to Dantanarayana by Dr. Ananda Gunasekera, Director - National Blood Transfusion Service.

Dr. Gunasekera commended Brandix on the massive effort which had taken an estimated 1,000 man hours to complete. The Token of Appreciation presented to Brandix read: “You who created wonders with your golden needles and golden hands have proved that you also have a golden heart.” NBTS officials commented that the degree of organisation of Brandix’s blood donation programme was exemplary and pointed out that they were able to handle storage easily although stocks reached maximum levels since the campaign was spread over two months. They also pointed out that requirements in many provinces across the island were fulfilled, since campaigns were conducted at Brandix production facilities in the Western, Southern, North Central, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces.  Discussions were also held at the presentation event between NBTS officials and Brandix representatives on future blood donation campaigns to be organised by the Group.

The Brandix Group’s principal CSR efforts are driven by the central corporate theme of ‘Care for Water: Care for Women’ and constitute a long term commitment to increasing the availability of water and the provision of safe drinking water to those most in need. The Group’s community outreach initiatives also include providing wells and pipe-borne water to communities in and around its manufacturing plants and the improvement of sanitation facilities in needy areas.
