HSBC in partnership with The School Relief Initiative (SRI) and the Department of Education in Galle recently helped set up fully equipped libraries in Kudagammana 01 and Kudagammana 03 schools located in the Tissamaharama.
The project undertook the renovation of these libraries with the inclusion of necessary library equipment and material ranging from school textbooks and storybooks, including translations of international classics such as Harry Potter and Tin Tin to enable the learning of under privileged children and enhance their knowledge by reading. In addition, colouring books with quality illustrations were donated to facilitate the learning of primary level students.
These schools were among four rural schools identified as the most deserving to receive fully equipped libraries. During the second phase, two other schools, namely Kotagoda and Lelwala located in the same province will receive similar library facilities in November, this year.
HSBC in conjunction, organised a book donation drive, which resulted in more than 2800 carefully used books been donated by its staff members for use at these libraries.

Jayasinghe, Project Manager, A.A.S. Sanjeewa, Project Officer, L.P.M. Nimeshika, Finance Manager School Research Initiative and HSBC staff members.
