A tragic road accident a year ago brought to end the untimely death of Anil Pushpa Kumara, a driver employed by Abans at their Kadulkale Warehouse Complex in Seeduwa. The tragedy which occured after working hours while he was on his way home from work, left behind a destitute young wife and two school going children with no means of income to support them.

Mrs. Saroshi Dubash, director of Abans,  reacted spontaneously to the calamity that had befallen on the bereaved family.  She immediately requested Abans General Manager of Operations Mr. Ajit Jayasinghe to render every assistance possible to them. Mr. Ajit Jayasinghe responded in the most positive way,  and with the unstinted coorporation of his Deputy General Manager of Operations Mr. Rangit Gajanayake, was able to  get magnanimous support from 150 staff members of Abans Kadulkale Warehouse Complex in Seeduwa who each pledged one days salary every month (totaling over Rs.26,000 per month) continuously to the bereaved family.

Abans Corporate Social Responsibility did not end with generous financial contributions from the staff. Mr. Ajit Jayasinghe DGM Operations was determined to uplift the living conditions of the bereaved family.  He harnessed the support of Abans Group, staff, suppliers and well wishers who readily contributed generously to rebuild the existing ramshakled house.

Mr.Ajit Jayasinghe’s tireless efforts were rewarded when the new house was completed at Kaduwala, Dunagaha in Divulapitiya and handed over to the family last week by Mrs. Saroshi Dubash - Director of Abans Group. A large gathering of Directors of Abans and senior managers were present on the occasion.

The spacious  house consists of 3 bedrooms, fans and electrical fittings, fully tiled bathroom with modern sanitary fittings, Sitting and Dining area and Kitchen.

Another noteworthy on-going CSR project of Abans is the presentation of School Books, School Stationary and Shoes to the children of Abans minor staff members.  Abans also conducts numerous on-going CSR Projects in rural schools in many areas, orphanages and homes for the disabled and destitute.
