Providing drinking water to schools daily
As part of a massive community development drive, Anantaya Resorts & Spa, Chilaw has come forward to donate drinking water to two underprivileged schools on a daily basis.
This is the first time that a hotel has initiated a project to donate drinking water on a daily basis to schools of this area, and will satisfy the daily drinking water needs of over 250 school students.
The two schools, Karukapane Government Tamil School and Korayapura Sinhalese School, are situated in the neighbourhood of Anantaya in Karukapane and face many challenges due to poor facilities and lack of funding. One of the main issues was the lack of clean drinking water for the students.
Anantaya has taken the initiative to provide bottled water to these students to satisfy their daily requirement of drinking water in the latest in a series of community development projects carried out by the hotel as a responsible neighbour. Previously, the hotel has empowered the people of its surrounding areas through employment opportunities, training and partnerships with local suppliers, and various CSR activities for community development.
Anantaya Resorts and Spa falls under the leisure arm of Laugfs Holdings Ltd and is the first and only luxury beach resort in the area. The hotel has placed Chilaw on the tourism map which has led to the creation of many direct and indirect employment opportunities and the overall development of the area.
