Volunteers from AIA joined hands in adding a little colour to the ‘Sahana’ home and vocational training centre for specials needs children and youth, in Ampitiya – Kandy. A team of volunteers from AIA’s Colombo and other regional offices travelled to Kandy to collaborate with their Kandy colleagues to help renovate Sahana, painting the walls of the school building, vocational centre and hostels. AIA also gifted some essential items for the vocational training centre and for their recreational activities.
‘Sahana’ is home to over 50 special needs children and youth, providing shelter, as well as specialised curriculum for their skills development and vocational training. It is also home to a sales centre where their creations such as wood carvings, handicraft and stitched items are sold, enabling residents of Sahana to become self-sufficient and independent.
AIA hopes that its contribution will help add some light to the lives of these extremely talented children and youth, as they forge ahead in developing their special skills.
