Wellawatta Nithyakalyani Jewellery, a pioneer in the gem and jewellery trade in Sri Lanka, celebrated its 40th anniversary through a series of social service events. As part of those events they held a beach clean-up campaign along Marine Drive from Wellawatta to Dehiwala.
The staff of Wellawatta Nithyakalyani Jewellery, Wellawatta Police, Wellawatta Coast Guard Unit and the general public participated in the event. The event commenced at 7 a.m. last Sunday morning and was successfully conducted with the community in the area being very pleased with their efforts.
“Sri Lanka is a beautiful island surrounded by ocean, and for those of us who live in Sri Lanka, one of our greatest resources is our beach and sea. A large number of tourists come to our country to experience our wonderful coastline. Thus it is the responsibility and duty of us all to protect and keep our coastline clean,” said Wellawatta Nithyakalyani Jewellery Chief Executive Officer A.P. Jayarajah.
Nithyakalyani has organised a series of social service events following this successful beach cleaning program to celebrate its 40th anniversary. “We would like to extend our special thanks to Wellawatta Police, Coast Guard Unit and all those who supported us in our endeavour today,” added A.P. Jayarajah.
