Wellawatta Nithyakalyani Jewellery, a leading jeweller in Sri Lanka, ceremonially inaugurated its second Pinthaliya in Dehiwala recently. The Pinthaliya was set up with the consultation of the Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council (DMMC) and is located at the premises of S. De S. Jayasinghe grounds near the Dehiwala Zoo.
The opening of this Pinthaliya was graced by DMMC Mayor Stanley Dias, DMMC Commissioner W.T.A. Manel, CEO A.P. Jayarajah, Partner P. Sivakumar, Associate Partner Dhivakar Balasubramaniam and the senior management of Nithyakalyani Jewellery.
In the good old days, Pinthaliya – a huge pot of water kept by the road, was the free source of drinking water for passers-by. Following this 1000-year-old tradition, the Pinthaliya has been built in close proximity to the National Zoo so that it will be useful to the thousands who visit it every day.
The first Pinthaliya of was set up in front of the Nithyakalyani showroom facing Galle Road, Wellawatta. Having seen a large number of pedestrians using it daily for quenching their thirst, the management decided to set up another Pinthaliya near the zoo.
“As a company concerned with the social responsibility rather than profit making, we engage in a number of CSR projects. This Pinthaliya is just another of such acts. Our intention is to engage in more CSR activities of different kinds in the years to come,” said Wellawatta Nithyakalyani Jewellery CEO A.P. Jayarajah.
