SLT-Mobitel, the national ICT solutions provider, celebrated the Thai Pongal festival on 13 January at the Talawakelle – Great Western Sri Muthu Mari Amman Temple, with a special donation of dry rations to 200 families in Talawakelle.
The initiative, a part of the company CSR program, ensured the distribution of essential items to families in the area facing economic challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
SLT-Mobitel works closely with the communities it operates in, touching the lives of all Sri Lankans as a vital partner in connectivity and communication. The company focuses on making a positive difference to people’s lives, at every possible opportunity.
Commenting on the donation, SLT Chief Marketing Officer Prabhath Dahanayake said, “Thai Pongal is a very significant celebration for the Tamil community as it marks the bounty of harvest, and the beginning of new opportunities. SLT-Mobitel wanted to mark this occasion with a show of appreciation towards the hardworking community that has been affected by the unforeseen pandemic.”
He added, “Right now, thousands of Sri Lankans around the country are facing many different challenges due to the impact of the pandemic. Some of our most vulnerable communities are also the most affected financially due to COVID-19. SLT-Mobitel has consistently supported the wellbeing of the nation and the public, and will continue to do so through its Corporate Social Responsibility efforts.”
This donation is one of many CSR initiatives made by SLT-Mobitel to contribute towards families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. During the nationwide lockdown in 2020, in addition to keeping Sri Lankans connected with each other, SLT-Mobitel also uplifted the nation through countless donations of dry rations, helping people meet their essential needs during a difficult time.
