Pilibimbu, the annual showcase event of the Photographic Art Society of Ananda College, Colombo, will be unveiled this year at the J.D.A. Gallery on Monday and Tuesday, 10 and 11 October. The exhibition which will be graced by various luminaries from the field of photography in Sri Lanka, will start at 8:30 a.m., and will be followed on Wednesday 12 October by the Photographic Day at Ananda College. Both the exhibition and the day were preceded by Oculus, the first arm of Pilibimbu which is a quiz competition on photography, held this year on 19 May.
The Photographic Art Society of Ananda College was established as the Photographic and Cinematographic Society. Initially it delved into both photography and the cinema before completely embracing the former. In 2001, the Society organised an exhibition and published a magazine to celebrate photography in Sri Lanka. In 2015 it began Oculus, which was more or less a technical competition and which soon gave way to a workshop that was held on a separate day. Guided by their able teacher-in-charge, the renowned critic Boopathy Nalin Wickramage, the members of the society have since been able to make great strides in the school photographic scene and culture.
