Pelwatte Dairy affirms commitment to uplift nutritional levels in children

Sri Lanka’s 100% local dairy manufacturer, Pelwatte Dairy Industries Ltd. (PDIL) has for many years committed itself not only to making Sri Lanka self-sufficient in milk but also uplifting the nutritional standards of children in Sri Lanka through its range of products. By introducing milk and milk-based products that are 100% natural and manufactured in Sri Lanka, PDIL has contributed economically and socially to the nation.

Speaking on World Children’s Day specifically highlighting PDIL’s commitment, Managing Director Akmal Wickramanayake noted, “Children are the future of our nation and the world. Therefore we believe that it is imperative to support their nutritional and educational needs as much as possible. While we strive to make sure that our products are the best in the market for children to consume, we also extend support to children of farming communities and low income families around the country so that children can have more opportunities. PDIL has a mandate to make Sri Lanka self-sufficient in milk and ensuring that our children are nourished and empowered to take on the world is definitely a successful by product of our efforts.”

To suit the unique taste buds of children, PDIL has introduced products such as Vanilla, Mango and Strawberry Drinking Yoghurt, Chocolate and Vanilla Flavoured Milk, Yoghurt and also Vanilla, Chocolate, Fruit & Nut, Banana, Mango, Strawberry, Coconut with Cardamom, Coffee with Cardamom, Butterscotch, and Blueberry Ice Cream. 

These products are manufactured at the Pelwatte Dairy state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Buttala using only 100% locally accumulated fresh milk. As opposed to imported milk foods, no artificial and plant-based fats and proteins are used in the manufacturing process ensuring maximum nutritional value. This ensures that parents can trust PDIL products to be the healthiest and safest products for their children to consume. PDIL also contributes to the convenience factor of modern day lifestyles by making its products readily available in convenient packaging. 

Through its engagement with the local farming community, PDIL also strives to improve local farmer contribution to the ever-growing dairy industry, helps improve their livelihood through training and development of their industry, and also extending support to family necessities especially in the area of providing educational support to children in farming families. Furthermore, PDIL also supported the Badulla Catholic Church Bishop’s office in their effort to nourish and uplift the education of the poor estate children of the Uva Province. PDIL provided milk powder as an incentive for children to attend school while providing dairy items to their Farm Shop that supports the community.
