Macktiles, a leading player in the local tile industry which offers quality and affordable products to the consumer, recently upgraded a floor area of a section of the Colombo South Teaching Hospital by providing vinyl flooring as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive.

Made with zero toxic material, vinyl flooring comes with sealed surfaces without joints making it an ideal solution for hospitals to maintain hygiene levels. Unlike tiled floors, it is easy to clean, and not having grouting spaces also prevents the accumulation of germs and viruses.

“As a responsible business Macktiles is committed to extend our support to the nation in every possible way to navigate the current pandemic situation.  We felt it is vital to extend our assistance to the country’s healthcare sector, which is grappling to fulfil the critical healthcare needs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Macktiles Chief Executive Officer Ahamed Shafee.

“Similarly, we believe this is the right moment to develop the local tile industry. We are exploring avenues to make an impact on the country’s economy by achieving self-sufficiency in the local tile manufacturing sector and thereby save foreign exchange outflow,” he added.

While the majority of our raw material is sourced locally, the company has invested in a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant from the Italian manufacturing giant SACMI and Systems with the aim to manufacture high quality porcelain and tiles of international quality.

“This will give Sri Lankan consumers access to products similar to ones that are imported from Italy and Spain,” said Macktiles General Manager Thajitha Perera.

This will also enable Macktiles to increase the production capacity to overcome the current scarcity of tiles in the local market and offer more affordable rates to the consumer.
