Lions of Colombo conduct mega Multi Service Health Camp

The Lions Club of Colombo successfully conducted a Multi Service Health Camp to benefit the villagers living in the Kelaniya area. The camp was held at the Sri Gnanawimalaramaya, Kelaniya with the blessings of the Chief Monk and support of the Dayaka Sabawa on Sunday 17 September from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and was conducted jointly with the Leo Club of Colombo which is the youth arm of the Lions Club. 

A team of 40 persons including Lions and Leos of Colombo, medical practitioners, pharmacists and volunteers were at hand to assist the over 300 persons who attended the camp which comprised of a general health clinic, diabetes clinic, eye testing clinic and distribution of reading glasses, nutrition clinic and a dengue awareness program. Patients who channelled the doctors were given free medicine from the pharmacy set up as a part of the health camp. The eye clinic and diabetes clinic were the busiest of all the units. Working towards eradicating preventable blindness has been a signature initiative of Lions worldwide for many years whilst combating diabetes has just been introduced as one of the key service pillars of Lions Clubs International. 

Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service organisation with over 1.4 million members working towards the motto of ‘We Serve’. In addition to serving locally, Lions and Leos support five global service areas: Vision, hunger, the environment, paediatric cancer and diabetes.
