In an effort to ease the starvation and malnutrition of children of Sri Lanka in the current economic conditions that have made millions of Sri Lankan food insecure, the Lions & Leos of Multiple District 306 Sri Lanka (MD 306), have launched the ‘Fight Child Hunger’ project, with the core objective of providing a much-needed daily meal to thousands of school children across the country over a period of three years.
Lions MD 306 is working with the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) on this special program as a special designated grant project program of the Foundation. Lions of Sri Lanka hope to raise $ 100,000 by mid-December 2022 as a starting point for the ‘Fight Child Hunger’ project, to provide 400,000 meals to children in 25 schools during the school year starting from Term 1.
Past International President of Lions International Mahendra Amarasuriya said: “It is imperative that we do what we can to help our children in need and ensure that they don’t suffer from starvation and malnutrition. We are certainly glad to be able to do our part by organising this project and providing a platform to collect donations for this incredibly worthy cause of helping our children. We encourage everyone to do their part and come forward with your generous donations as well.”
The Lions & Leos of Sri Lanka urge the general public to join hands, by donating however possible, to become a part of this extremely worthwhile and necessary cause, in order to ensure that the nation’s children successfully fight starvation and malnutrition, and live healthy and happy lives. Even the smallest of donations can go a long way to help children in need and the citizens of our nation have proven time and time again the power of unity when it comes to helping our own.
Lions & Leos of Multiple District 306 have been at the forefront of community support initiatives catering to the needs of the country for several decades.
They have also been in action throughout the COVID pandemic via donations and volunteering activities in many communities.
