Lanka IOC PLC embarked on yet another CSR initiative to mark its 17th year of operation in Sri Lanka with the distribution of school bags to deserving students of G.T.M. Methodist School in Kollupitiya.
As a responsible corporate citizen, LIOC believes that CSR is not merely about philanthropic activities, making generous contributions to various charitable causes but about being accountable for your actions, to all your stakeholders and operating in a way that ensures long-term sustainability, which in turn ensures sustainable development of the nation.
LIOC has been at the forefront reaffirming its continued commitment towards promoting quality education by supporting children from weaker sections of the community. Towards this, in celebrating the Children’s Day LIOC distributed school bags and meals to the students of G.T.M. Methodist School in Kollupitiya coinciding with World’s Children’s Day on 1 October. The school has a total student population of 90 and a staff of 14 conducts classes from grade 1 to grade 11, and majority of the students are from economically underprivileged families. The school was selected as the school lacked some of the basic needs and infrastructure facilities.
Commenting on the occasion Lanka IOC PLC Managing Director Manoj Gupta said, “We at Lanka IOC recognise education as one of the main pillars to a nation’s development and have always worked towards lending a helping hand towards improving the basic needs of students at the grass roots level. Lack of basic amenities and infrastructure in school results in poor learning output, affecting the overall academic development of a student. This CSR program was initiated to contribute to the society in a sustainable manner, improving the facility to the children by tackling the problems at the grass root level.”
The principal of G.T.M. Methodist School speaking on the occasion thanked Lanka IOC PLC on behalf of the students and the staff for their generosity in fulfilling the basic needs of the students and requested further assistance to improve the basic infrastructure facilities of the school.
Amongst the distinguished guests present at the event were LIOC MD Manoj Gupta, Senior Vice President –Finance Pramod Jain, Senior Vice President (Retail Sales and HR) Girish Ranjan, Senior Vice President –Engineering T.K. Elamaran and officials from Lanka IOC.
