Established in 2005, the apparel manufacturer Emjay-Penguin donated 4,500 dry ration packs to their entire workforce before they went home to their respective villages for the holidays. The event was organised through the company’s ‘Athwela’ CSR program, in order to make their Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations a memorable event, as well as to ease their burden during these difficult times. Emergency lamps were also distributed to their female workforce, in lieu of International Women’s Day, to help out during the prolonged power outages. Emjay-Penguin conducts various projects under their ‘Athwela’ CSR program to aid the livelihood of the citizens who live in close proximity to their factories spread across Kurunegala and Kandy. The CSR projects include: Medical Camps, Blood Donation Camps, and Book Donations for School Children, Tree Planting Campaigns, Donations to Schools and Hospitals, Career Guidance Programs and Environment Cleaning Projects. Above all, ‘Athwela’ focuses mainly on improving the water and sanitary facilities of school children. Emjay-Penguin is honoured that they are able to uplift the livelihoods of the society even in a small way, through their ‘Athwela’ CSR programs.
