Against the backdrop of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and despite the rugby season coming to a temporary standstill, Dialog Axiata PLC (Dialog), Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider, and Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) came together to collaborate in a series of community projects for the year 2021 whilst adhering to the COVID-19 safety guidelines mandated by the Ministry of Health.
Kickstarting the first project for 2021, on an early Saturday morning on 30 January, a group comprising members from the SLR, including President Rizly Illyas, Consultant Kevin Herft, officials and national players including Men’s Team Captain Kevin Dixon, Omalka Gunaratne, Women’s Team Captain Anusha Aththanayake, and more in association with the Dialog team set-off to spend the day with the seniors of the Kalukapuge Luwis Perera Elders Home in Battaramulla.
The day started off with tea and snacks, followed by a fun and invigorating stretching exercise conducted by the national Rugby Women’s Team Captain Anusha Aththanayake, aimed at encouraging the elders to participate in morning exercises.
The SLR team players and Dialog staff members mingled with the seniors whilst maintaining social distancing, engaged in an afternoon of fun and festivity, and ended the day with music, dance and camaraderie.
