The BMICH, Sri Lanka’s most recognisable and iconic landmark, recently organised a blood donation campaign in commemoration and honour of its founders, late Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, late Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike and of former Cabinet Minister and Speaker of Parliament Anura Bandaranaike on their 59th, 18th and 10th death anniversaries. An almsgiving was also held as part of the commemoration.
“Our founders were not only committed to Sri Lanka but also to the world. It is our hope that our activities of merit will continue to honour them. Undoubtedly, this campaign will have a very real and direct impact on a large number of people who are in need,” said BMICH Director/CE Sunil Dissanayake.
With hundreds of well-wishers and BMICH staff signing up, the scope of this campaign was truly unprecedented. Importantly, it also marked the dedication to service embodied by two of Sri Lanka’s greatest national figures, the late S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike – Sri Lanka’s fourth Prime Minister who was widely regarded as an international statesman and the late Sirimavo Bandaranaike, the modern world’s first female head of state.
Set in a sprawling site with 15 well laid out and spacious car parks that can accommodate 3000 vehicles at a given time and well maintained landscaped gardens, BMICH is Sri Lanka’s largest and Asia’s very first purpose-built convention centre with ultra-modern facilities.
The BMICH is situated in one of the most prestigious locations in Colombo. BMICH won the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) in 2016, 2017 and Regional Gold Award in 2018 in Mumbai, India. They also won the Quality ERA Award in 2016 and 2017 in Geneva and Paris respectively.
