Allianz Lanka supports District General Hospital – Negombo

  • Donates equipment to strengthen capacity of hospital’s Blood Bank

Allianz Insurance Lanka Ltd. (Allianz Lanka), one of Sri Lanka’s leading insurance providers, extended its support to the District General Hospital – Negombo with a donation of air conditioning equipment to the hospital’s Blood Bank.

The District General Hospital – Negombo is one of the key health care facilities in the Negombo region, serving as the primary healthcare centre for patients in Negombo and the neighbouring suburbs. It also caters to the Bandaranayake International Airport and the Katunayake Free Trade Zone.

The air conditioning units have been installed in the hospital’s Blood Bank which serves over 200 patients and 150 blood donors every week. Air conditioning is essential to helping blood banks maintain the quality of their service. Strengthening the capacity of the Blood Bank, the equipment is set to help the facility deliver greater levels of care and support to its patients and donors.

Allianz Insurance Lanka Chief Executive Officer Gany Subramaniam dedicated the machines to the hospital in the presence of Allianz Insurance Lanka Chief Marketing Officer Mangala Bandara, Allianz Insurance Lanka Assistant General Manager – Market Management Samantha Gunawardena and several other representatives from Allianz Insurance Lanka. 

National Blood Transfusion Service Director Dr. Luxshman Edirisinghe, District General Hospital – Negombo Director Dr. Nirmala Loganathan, District General Hospital – Negombo Consultant Transfusion Physician Dr. Asha De Alwis and District General Hospital – Negombo former Medical Officer In-charge – Blood Bank Dr. Nimesh Pathirane were also present on this occasion.

“We would like to thank Allianz Insurance Lanka for their donation of air conditioning equipment to the Blood Bank at the District General Hospital – Negombo. As one of the key Government healthcare facilities in the region, the hospital receives a large number of patients on any given day. This donation will give a boost to the Blood Bank’s infrastructure and help us offer better care and support to patients and donors,” said Dr. Asha De Alwis.
