Work on 9th Deyata Kirula Development Exhibition gets underway

At a cost of fifteen billion rupees

Fifteen billion rupees will be spent on the ninth Deyata Kirula Development Exhibition and related development projects disclosed Minister for Telecommunication and information Technology Ranjith Siyambalapitiya Wednesday (9th). Work on the ninth Deyata Kirula exhibition got underway with the laying of the foundation stone at Kotawila by Hambanthota District parliamentarian Namal Rajapakse in the presence of a large gathering of ministers and government officials. A foundation stone was also laid at the premises adjacent to Mahinda Rajapaksa College in Wellamada which will be a venue for part of the exhibition. “It is only now that there is Peace, Democracy and Development in Sri Lanka. When we look back in to the history of our nation from 1505 to 2009, we have enjoyed peace and freedom only for 35 years that is from 1948 to 1983. But, during that period of time we did not have development projects of this magnitude. Deyata Kirula is not just an exhibition. The ninth Deyata Kirula which covers the Matara, Hambanthota, Galle and Rathnapura districts will see unprecedented development within the next few months. The President has specifically instructed that Kotawila should be the Administrative City of Matara at the conclusion of the exhibition,” said Minister for Youth Affairs and Skills Development Dullas Alahapperuma.

“Please don’t overlook the University of Ruhuna”: Namal Rajapakse

“Please don’t over look the University of Ruhuna which was the original venue for the ninth Deyata Kirula Exhibition when development work gets underway in Matara,” appealed Namal Rajapakse after laying the foundation stone for the national development exhibition at Kotawila. “Times have changed, I remember those days people were protesting requesting for development but may be because there is so much development, now people are protesting against development. A few students of the University of Ruhuna protested against the University premises being selected as the venue for the exhibition. That is the way youth like us act, they some times get into reverse gear! The University of Ruhuna needs a facelift. Hence, don’t overlook the University of Ruhuna and please develop it as originally planned,” he reiterated. Minister for Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Minister of Investment Promotion Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Chief Minister of the Southern Province Shan Wijelal de Silva, provincial ministers Chandima Rasaputhra, Weerasumana Weerasinghe, Mayor of Matara Sosindra Handunge, Provincial Councillors, Chairmen and members of local government bodies and government officials were present.
