Virtusa Corporation, a global business consulting and IT outsourcing company that combines innovation, technology leadership and industry solutions to transform the customer experience, has been recognised with the Bronze Flame in the Large Scale Category of the Commercial Buildings Sector at the annual Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Awards 2015, held recently at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo.
Virtusa received the award in recognition of its efforts inconserving energy and was the only IT company to be felicitated at the event.
“While we strive to help our global clients reimagine their digital landscape, we are equally committed to conserving resources and safeguarding the environment. We are honored to see these efforts being recognized at this forum. It further underscores our standing as a sustainable enterprise that is passionate about energy conservation,” Executive Vice President and General Manager, Virtusa, Madu Ratnayake said.
Energy management is handled under Virtusa’s Code Green program. Code Green is Virtusa’s Environment Management System and is certified for ISO 14001. Code Green encompasses measures to manage emissions, energy, water and waste. Virtusa has optimized energy usage across its facilities through green buildings and the use of energy efficient products. For example, Virtusa’s Campus in Hyderabad is rated LEED Gold and 22% of office space in Colombo (43,000 sqft) has been rated LEED Silver. In 2012,Virtusa implemented an initiative to convert the lighting systems in its Colombo, Hyderabad and Chennai facilities to LED. Due to such measures, Virtusa reduced per capita energy consumption from 187 kWh in FY13 to 140 kWh in FY15.
Vice President at Virtusa Denver DeZylva, who is in chargeof the company’s strategic sustainability initiatives said, “We are proud to receive this award in recognition of our ongoing energy conservation initiatives. We will continue to strive to minimize our carbon footprint and environmental impact.”
The Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Awards is an annual national event conducted by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) for private and public sector institutions with the aim of recognizing their contribution towards an energy secure Sri Lanka. Through this forum, the SLSEA seeks to bestow national recognition to the energy consumers in the sub sectors of manufacturing, services and healthcare who have made systematic and serious attempts for efficient utilization, conservation and management of energy and have achieved substantial results/benefits during a period under review.
