Vijitha Yapa meets Presidents of Frankfurt Book Fair and Asia Pacific Publishers Association

Incheon Metropolitan City of South Korea will be the book capital of the world for 2015, UNESCO has announced. The official inauguration is to be on 25 April, according to the announcement. The declaration of Incheon as the book capital of the world on that day will be jointly organised by UNESCO, the Asia Pacific Book Publishers Association (APPA) and South Korea.

Sri Lanka Book Publishers Association President and Asia Pacific Publishers Association Vice President Vijitha Yapa with Frankfurt Book Fair President/CEO Juergen Boos and Asia Pacific Publishers Association President Eric Yang A preliminary meeting focusing on literacy and reading promotion was held in December 2014 in Incheon. Sri Lanka Book Publishers Association President and Asia Pacific Publishers Association Vice President Vijitha Yapa was invited to make a presentation about reading promotion in Sri Lanka and in South Asia. He said that Sri Lanka already has a literacy rate of 98% and is projected to achieve 100% literacy in 2016. Yapa also gave details of the activities of the Sri Lanka Book Publishers Association to promote reading through the Colombo and Kandy book fairs and through prizes worth Rs. 750,000 given to authors of the best novels under the Swarna Pushtaka Award.
