Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang, who was on a state visit to Sri Lanka with a 60-member business delegation, visited the World Trade Centre (WTC), Colombo to see the gems on display at the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Exchange.
The visit to the WTC by the President, took place just prior to his departure after a three day visit to strengthen bilateral trade between Sri Lanka and Vietnam where the signing of eight Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) took place.
Under the sponsorship of the National Gem and Jewellery Authority, the Gem and Jewellery Exchange meeting platform for both buyers and sellers, was established as a hub for industry related commercial activities.
Consisting approximately 50 shops on two levels in the retail podium of the WTC, Colombo, a wide variety of fairly priced local and international gems and jewellery are available replete with gem labs managed by the Gem and Jewellery Authority to verify and ascertain authenticity.
WTC, Colombo the best business address in Sri Lanka further enhances the Gem and Jewellery Exchange as a one-stop shop for both local and international visitors alike. Complete with many F&B outlets, money exchange facilities as well as most local and international banks, airlines and travel operators located at the retail floors further boosts the offering.
Located in the heart of the central business district, the twin towers known for its high quality purpose built office space on 37 levels is the only intelligent building in the country and is still 10 years ahead of its time and offerings. With over 200 tenants, WTC houses the largest number of corporates in turn creating the largest B2B network under one roof. Multi-story on-site parking on nine levels makes access a convenience.
President Truong Tan Sang’s visit, an extended invitation by President Mahinda Rajapakse is the first state visit by a Vietnamese President since diplomatic relations between the two nations was established in 1970.
This milestone visit to Sri Lanka which also saw the opening of a Vietnamese embassy in Colombo is set to strengthen ties between the two nations.
