USQ Sri Lanka Alumni Chapter holds technical symposium

The USQ Sri Lanka Alumni Chapter, which was formed with the association of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) and the University of Southern Queensland (Australia), held its first Technical Symposium in Colombo at the Galle Face Hotel on 2 October from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the same venue on 1 October at 6:30 p.m. The Chief Guest for this occasion was Sri Lanka’s Minister of External Affairs Prof. GL Peiris. Guests of Honour were the High Commissioner of Australia for Sri Lanka Kathy Klugman and Prof. Peter best from USQ.

The colourful event which kicked off with a traditional welcome ceremony featured speeches and sentiments by the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour. The ceremony concluded with cocktails and entertainment.

A line-up of distinguished speakers conducted presentations relating to the theme of the symposium at the technical sessions held the day after the inauguration. These professionals were specifically chosen for their expertise in finance, investments, banking and economic development.

Managing Director/CEO of HNB Rajendra Theagarajah and United Nations Head of National Portfolio Development for Sri Lanka and Maldives Rohantha Athukorale shared valuable insights to the post-war economic development while Angelo Patrick, Group Director Capital Maharajah and Lorne Gibson also addressed the symposium.

The event was patronised by the targeted audience consisting professionals from commercial and financial institutions as well as from professional bodies such as members from Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM UK), ICASL and MBA graduates from other universities, etc.

The session concluded with vote of thanks delivered by the General Secretary of the Chapter, Priyantha Punchihewa.

The Executive Committee of USQ Sri Lanka Alumni expressed its gratitude to the USQ Australia Public Relations office and to ICASL for the invaluable and generous support given to execute the event successfully and intends to make it an annual event in the calendar of the alumni.
