The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, with the initiation of the John Keells Foundation and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), will organise a two day conference under the theme “Sustainable Biodiversity & Economic Development on 12 and 13 July, 2011 at King’s Court, Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo.
Organisers said 22 May is celebrated as the “International Biological Diversity Day”, as declared by the United Nations. Biological diversity is the resource upon which families, communities, nations and future generations depend on.
It is the link between all organisms on earth, binding each into an inter-dependant ecosystem, in which all species have their specific role of responsibility.
“Through this Conference we intend increasing awareness and understanding on the importance of biodiversity and its preservation, which we believe would be an important tool in achieving development and alleviating poverty in Sri Lanka,” the organisers added.
