A unique community initiative that raises funds for a worthy cause and promotes sustainability will be launched at the Sri Lanka Design Festival (SLDF) 2011 by Textured Jersey Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.
Under this initiative, a limited edition of 500 ‘ethical’ t-shirts designed by Diana George, a second year graphic design student at the Academy of Design (AOD), will be sold at the SLDF by Textured Jersey, a leading producer of value-added knitted fabric, to support the education of students living in the vicinity of the company’s manufacturing facility at Avissawella.
The front of the t-shirt portrays a stylised pigeon, the universal symbol of peace and love, in a vivid combination of red, violet, green and yellow while the back of the t-shirt features a tree, symbolic of the wellbeing of the environment and society, in the same mix of colours together with the Textured Jersey logo.
This ‘ethical’ t-shirt will be on sale from 16 to 20 November at the AOD stall, during events of the SLDF.
Textured Jersey is the Official Fabric Partner of the 2011 SLDF.
“An important aspect of this community project, which complements Textured Jersey’s socially conscious and sustainability-driven corporate agenda, is the effort to engage a wider audience in the cause,” a spokesperson for the company said.
Sustainability, eco friendly practices and contributing towards the upliftment of living standards of those living in the vicinity of its manufacturing facility feature prominently in Textured Jersey’s Corporate Social Responsibility agenda. The company has received the SA 8000 standard on Social Compliance.
