Tanzanian FM, Basil discuss bilateral ties

Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Cooperation Bernard K. Membe, presently in Sri Lanka on a three-day visit, met with the Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa on Monday and had discussions on strengthening bilateral economic relations. At this meeting held in the Ministry of Economic Development, Membe expressed his pleasure over the rapid development achieved by Sri Lanka within a short period after cessation of a terrorist war. He stated that Sri Lankan knowledge and experience are essential for uplift of their industries, especially with regard to the development of the coconut industry in Tanzania. Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa offered maximum cooperation from Sri Lanka for strengthening bilateral economic relations. Minister Membe presently in Sri Lanka is expected to enter into two Memoranda of Understanding on Establishment of an Integrated Commission on Co-operation and Bilateral Understanding on Political Counseling and another agreement on Coconut Development and Research. Dr. Nihal Jayatilake, Secretary to the Ministry of Economic Development and Bhaswara Senanka, Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority were among the participants on this occasion.
