Sunil Wijesinha has been appointed as the Chairman of the Watawala Plantations PLC. He succeeds Govindasamy Sathasivam who has stepped down, having been in the top seat from 1996. However, Sathasivam will continue to serve the Board as a Director.
Wijesinha who was a Director has been appointed to the Remuneration Committee of the company as well. He was previously the Chairman and Managing Director of Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC and Managing Director of the Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka. Wijesinha functioned as the Chairman of The Employees Trust Fund Board, Vice Chairman of the Colombo Dockyard, Deputy Chairman of Sampath Bank and Merchant Credit of Sri Lanka. In addition, he has been on several boards in the private and public sector including SriLankan Airlines.
At present, he serves on the boards of Sampath Leasing and Factoring Ltd., Asiri Surgical Hospitals PLC, DFCC Vardhana Bank and as Chairman of DNH Financial Ltd. He is also the Chairman of the Employers Federation of Ceylon and the President of National Chamber of Commerce.
Wijesinha is a qualified production engineer and has a MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayawardenapura. He is also a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK.
Following the changes, the Board of Watawala Plantations comprises of S.G. Wijesinha (Chairman/Independent Director), G. Sathasivam, R.K. Krishna Kumar, H.R. Bhat, B.A. Hulangamuwa, V. Govindasamy, K. Venkataramanan, S.G. Sathasivam (alternate to G. Sathasivam), N. Fernando and D.V. Seevaratnam (CEO).
