The 21st Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka-Canada Business Council was held recently at the Canada Club. The council, which focuses on the objectives of ‘promoting investment, trade and joint venture between Sri Lanka and Canada,’ is one of the twenty One bilateral business councils that function under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
Bruce Levy, Ambassador Designate for Canada in Sri Lanka and Chief Guest in his speech stated that he looks forward future support of the council for various activities.
Tan Beng Chuan, Group General Manager, Prima Group stepped down as the President of the Council and Sampath Liyanage, Managing Director, Divehi Holdings (Pvt) Ltd. was elected as President of the Council for the year 2012-2013.
He mentioned that the incoming Committee would encourage joint ventures between Sri Lanka and Canada, exchange information on trade and investment, conduct joint meetings with Canadian business organisations in Sri Lanka and Canada and will serve as a recognised representative of the business sector interests in Sri Lanka.
Ramya Perera, General Manager, Infotechs Limited and Chandev Abhayaratne, Director, Fentons Limited were appointed as Vice Presidents.
The following Committee members were elected on to the Committee of the Sri Lanka-Canada Business Council: Raja Abeysinghe, CEO, Allied Trading & Engineering (Pvt) Ltd., D.R. Rajapakse, Managing Director, Samson Rubber Industries (Pvt) Ltd., Shiran Gunawardena, Marketing Manager, Sigiriya Village Hotels Ltd. and Imran Noordeen, Sales Manager, Cinnamon Lakeside.
Membership of the Council is open to individual persons, partnerships, companies, corporations or other organisations engaged in trade, tourism or services with Canada or engaged in joint ventures with Canadian organisations or interested in entering into or promoting trade, tourism, services or joint ventures with Canadian organisations.
