‘Sri Lanka-Austria Economic Forum’ organised by European Chamber of Commerce today

A high level delegation from Austria, including Rudolf Schenz, Vice President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, Bernhard Wrabetz, Austrian Ambassador and Oskar Andesner, Austrian Commercial Counsellor will be visiting Sri Lanka from 11 to 14 May. 

A business delegation will be accompanying the dignitaries. The business delegation is interested to explore the Sri Lankan market and to seek vital contacts with the Sri Lankan business community. The business delegates are representatives of companies from the water treatment sector, hydropower sector, health care sector and renewable energy systems sector.

The Austrian Trade Commission ‘Advantage Austria’ based in New Delhi will be hosting the ‘Sri Lanka-Austria Economic Forum’ on 12 May. The forum will be held in the Ivy Room at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel. This forum is organised by The European Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka. The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce is also playing a supportive role for this event. 

The main focus of this forum will be ‘Sri Lanka – A bright spot in today’s worldwide economy’. Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Harsha De Silva will deliver keynote speeches.

The speakers

Following the keynote speeches Karunanayake and De Silva will join a panel discussion. The panel will also comprise Deputy Minister of State Enterprise Development Eran Wickramaratne, John Wilson, Partner at John Wilson Partners, and Premila Perera, former Partner of KPMG. The panel will be moderated by Indrajit Coomaraswamy, reputed economist and former Director of Economic Affairs at the Commonwealth Secretariat. 

The panel discussion will be followed by a presentation by Board of Investment Sri Lanka Chairman Upul Jayasuriya. Dr. Oskar Andesner, the Commercial Counselor at the Austrian Embassy, will then introduce the delegation to the audience and provide an overview on the business possibilities.
