ITN Chief Executive Officer Chandana Thilakarathna and Abans Chairperson Aban Pestonjee sign the agreement between the two organisations at the ITN auditorium
The state-run Independent Television Network (ITN) has announced a partnership with Abans PLC as part of the Sooryabala Sangramaya initiative to generate electricity using solar power. This partnership is expected to fulfill ITN’s energy consumption.
It is believed that by taking this step, ITN will become the first large scale media institution in South Asia to use solar energy as one of its power sources. The project is expected to generate 100kW in the first stage from solar panels that will be attached to the new ITN building complex. This service alliance signed yesterday is worth Rs. 16.2 million in its initial stage. The ITN Sooryabala Sangramaya is the result of a concept by Power and Renewable Energy Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera, carried out under the guidance of ITN Chairman Saman Athawudahetti.
