Softlogic Finance stepped up efforts to improve awareness of the importance of garbage segregation and recycling among the public and to increase the cleanliness of the environment, by extending its flagship ‘Clean Zone’ community initiative to its city office at Colombo 2.
With the ceremonial launch of the initiative by a host of dignitaries including State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene and Mayor of Colombo A.J.M. Muzammil, Softlogic Finance’s City Office at No. 14/9, Sri Jinarathana Road became the company’s third location to join the effort, which eventually envisages to improve the cleanliness of a 100 km roadside extent in the country by utilising Softlogic Finance’s branch network across the island.
Similar to other locations in which the ‘Clean Zone’ was launched, the City Office of Softlogic Finance too would now focus on increasing the awareness of the vital importance of garbage segregation and recycling by deploying staff members to educate those in the vicinity by various means, including distribution of leaflets and by displaying in front of the branch separate bins dedicated for the disposal of plastic, bottles and non-recyclable waste. The City Office will also seek the assistance of municipal authorities in increasing the cleanliness of a 500 m roadside extent to each side of the branch which would be achieved through garbage collection at more frequent intervals. This would eventually be expanded to a 1 km extent to either side of the branch.
“Considering that our City Office is located within Colombo 2 – an important commercial area visited frequently by a large number of people – it is ideally placed to substantially contribute to our Clean Zone program by spreading awareness on the importance of garbage segregation, recycling and keeping the environment clean,” Softlogic Finance CEO Nalin Wijekoon said. “We especially value the commitment of our staff to this effort, which has enabled us to extend the initiative to several locations including the City Office within less than two months.”
“This is a noteworthy effort which can help to make a difference in a sphere which is of much importance to the wellbeing and health of the people of this country,” State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene said. “I applaud the efforts of Softlogic Finance and wish them the best of luck in this timely endeavour.”
“Proper disposal of garbage is a subject of much importance to the city of Colombo in particular,” Mayor of Colombo A.J.M. Muzammil said. “Therefore I appreciate this initiative of Softlogic Finance and encourage them to expand it further.”
After being launched at Softlogic Finance’s Nawala branch by Deputy Minister of Policy Planning, Economic Affairs, Child, Youth and Cultural Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva in late March 2015, the Clean Zone program has been gathering momentum and was also introduced at the Katugasthota branch of Softlogic Finance.
