SLI Biz Council briefs Asitha Perera

Asitha Perera, Ambassador Designate to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Italy met the Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka-Italy Business Council on 6 April, 2011 at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, prior to his departure to take over responsibilities in Italy as the new Ambassador.

The President of the Council Ranjit Jayewardene briefed Perera the objectives of the Council and its vast membership and discussed issues relating to bilateral trade and investment between Sri Lanka and Italy. Special emphasis was placed on the organization of trade and investment promotion missions to and from Sri Lanka.

The Committee also discussed avenues of collaboration with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Italy and Perera requested the Council to inform him if any assistance is required. He also said that Sri Lanka should also think of ways of reciprocating the aid and assistance provided by Italy to Sri Lanka in the past not only through monetary terms but in little ways of humanitarian assistance.

This meeting was also attended by Dr. Gianluca Rubagotti, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Italy, Daya Ratnayake, Vice President of the Sri Lanka – Italy Business Council, Past Presidents of the Council, Rajeev Aloysius, Sunil Wijesinha, Gihan Silva, Jeewani Siriwardene, Director – Market Development, Sri Lanka Export Development Board, Committee Members; Rajah Abeysinghe, Tyrell Roche and Carlo Andrenelli, President, Sri Lanka – Italy Friendship Society.
