Sri Lanka Security Service Providers Association (SLASSPA) President Major Tissa Aluwihare voiced the concerns of the members of SLASSPA over the numerous holidays which have greatly impacted the security industry.
“As you may have noticed over the past few days at your organisations or homes, there is a shortage of security staff on ground. After the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season, the entire security industry is impacted heavily by this issue. This year in particular there is an endemic shortage of security staff unlike previous years because of the unusual proximity of two major holiday seasons – Avurudu and Vesak within two weeks of each other – coupled with bad weather and the heavy rains prevailing in the country. As a result, all security companies in Sri Lanka are suffering from severe manpower shortages!”
Aluwihare requested the business community as well as home owners to have patience and assured them that they would do their utmost to ensure a regular service during the holiday period.
“As the leading association of the Sri Lankan Security Industry, SLASSPA would like to create awareness and enlighten the business community of this situation as all security providers are facing the same problem. Changing your security service provider may hence not be the solution.” Aluwihare stressed the fact that all members of his association have been conducting rigorous recruiting campaigns all over Sri Lanka since the New Year in order to fill the gaps as soon as possible. “We anticipate that operations will get back to normal after the upcoming Vesak Poya holidays and urge our customers to be patient as this is a common problem to all security providers.”
