Singer (Sri Lanka) Plc later this month will be shifting to new premises at Navam Mawatha from its long-standing 320 Union Place, Colombo, where it operated for two decades.

Its presence at Union Place has been iconic and despite being on rent, the office is popularly referred to as the “Singer building.”

With owners John Keells Holdings redeveloping the area to put up its new residential apartments, Singer is on the move again.

It shifted to Union Place after moving from Chatham Street. The new location No. 80, Navam Mawatha, again on a land owned by JKH Group, will be up and ready from mid April.

Spanning a larger area of around 38,000 square feet, the new two storey premises will house Singer Sri Lanka staff numbering 250. At Union Place some of the staff was housed at the premises of Singer Finance, opposite the Head Office.

Group CEO Asoka Pieris said that Singer would begin a new chapter from Navam Mawatha office. “The new office is more spacious and more importantly it has a beautiful view overlooking the Beira,” he added.

The 132-year-old Singer Group has four companies with an employee base of 1,147 and net sales of Rs. 16 billion.
