Sena Peiris elected APRSCP President

During the 10th Conference held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Engineer Sena Peiris, Director of National Cleaner Production Centre, Sri Lanka was elected the president of Asia Pacific Roundtable for Sustainable Consumption and Production (APRSCP).

APRSCP is the forum of all professionals, policymakers, industrialists, researchers, academics and practitioners of Sustainable Consumption and production in the Asia pacific region.

APRSCP was born in 1997 as a result of concerted efforts by a small group of dedicated professionals gathered for a meeting in Thailand. Sri Lankan business magnate Nihal Abeysekera was a founder member and held the position of Vice president until 2008.

APRSCP has grown to be the largest network on Sustainable Consumption and Production in the region over the last 15 years.

During this period APRSCP has held 10 regional conferences bringing in all SCP promoters to one meeting place every 18 months. The ninth conference was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka in June 2010.

The last conference was held in November 2011 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

APRSCP is governed by a board of trustees which consist of representatives from 12 countries of the Asia pacific region.

The Board of Trustees of the APRSCP unanimously elected Engineer Sena Peiris to lead the organisation during the Yogyakarta conference.

Peiris is an old student of Richmond College, Galle. He graduated as an engineer from University of Peradeniya.

He has held positions of engineer, chief engineer, factory manager, general manager and director during his long carrier in the engineering field. In 2002 he was selected as the Director of the newly established National Cleaner Production Centre of Sri Lanka.

Peiris will be responsible to lead the APRSCP for three years from November 2011 to November 2014.
