SAPPTA conducts one day workshop in Ampegama

The Spices and Allied Products Producers’ and Traders’ Association (SAPPTA) affiliated to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce conducted a one day workshop for the small holders and the planters of the Regional Plantation Companies (RPCs) of cinnamon in Ampegama, Galle.



This was the third workshop organised by SAPPTA in collaboration with the Department of Export Agriculture, the Export Development Board and the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI). The main focus of this workshop was to educate the small holders and the planters of the RPCs on nursery management and new planting techniques, GAP and maintenance, fertilisation methods and types of fertiliser, value addition and business entrepreneurship.

Association Chairman Viren Ruberu stated that SAPPTA intends organising similar workshops in Matara and other regions of the country as this would assist the Spice Industry to strategically drive towards achieving greater quality of produce whilst enhancing the countries spice production and offering new entrepreneurs the opportunity to secure new avenues.

The Spices and Allied Products Producers’ & Traders’ Association he said is dedicated to aggressively work towards achieving this objective.
