It was a bonanza for Sampath Sanhinda Saver account holders in the south when they got an opportunity of participating in a free medical camp held in Matara recently. They enjoyed the benefit of a thorough medical check up free of charge.

The tests carried out at the camp included full blood count, fasting blood sugar, urine full report, ECG, total cholesterol and SGPT (liver function). This was in addition to checking the vision, height and weight of each participant. Physical examinations covering general, dermatological, cardio- vascular, respiratory, abdominal, pelvic and the nervous system were also carried out.

The participants were also given advice by the medical staff on how to lead a healthy life. They were also told of the dos and don’ts in one’s daily life.

Sampath Sanhinda Saver account holders from eight Sampath Bank branches in the Southern Province were invited to the medical camp for which over a hundred turned up. They were from Matara, Galle, Deniyaya, Morawaka, Tangalle and Karapitiya. The medical camp was held at the Matara Branch premises.

Sampath Bank’s Senior Manager – Marketing, Upul Navaratne Bandara said that the medical camp held for the first time was a tremendous success and the senior citizens who participated appreciated the service very much. “In the coming months we are planning to organise medical camps in several other towns,” he added.

Explaining the rationale behind the project, he said that having noticed the high percentage of the ageing population in Sri Lanka, the bank felt that providing such a service to the senior citizens is the responsibility of the bank and to make sure that they are happy and healthy. “It clearly demonstrates the bank’s concern for the elderly and its keenness to serve the community as a responsible corporate entity.”

Sanhinda Saver, the senior citizen savings account introduced by Sampath Bank is specially designed to cater the financial requirements of senior citizens and is offered with many value additions. The product was launched in July 2009 and market studies show that it is the leading product in the senior citizen savings segment in the market.

Created especially for senior citizens, a Sampath Sanhinda Saver account can be opened for as low as a sum of Rs. 1,000. The rate of interest is higher than normal savings accounts and the account holders can also enjoy additional benefits. A further additional interest is paid on US Dollar savings. If Rs. 50,000 or higher amount is maintained throughout the year, the account holder is entitled to free health checks.

Showing concern for the economic hardships faced by persons as they grow old, the Bank decided to pay interest twice a month thereby easing their burden.

More benefits in the form of winning holidays – both local and foreign, are also included depending on the quantum maintained in the Sampath Sanhinda Saver accounts. Further, all Sampath Sanhinda Saver Account Holders are offered special discounts at selected outlets irrespective of the balances they maintain in their accounts.

“It is possibly the first time that senior citizens are being offered such a good package in any country in the world”, said Senior Manager Bandara, adding that Sanhinda Saver is indeed a unique product and the benefits are unimaginable.

Within a considerably short space of time, Sampath Sanhinda Saver has been accepted as the most caring savings account for senior citizens.
