The market leader in exporting cinnamon, Samagi Spice Exports Ltd. excelled at the Export Awards 2016 organised by the National Chamber of Exports (NCE) by bagging an Export Excellence Award in Agriculture Bulk Sector – Extra Large Category. 

Having a reputed name for exporting cinnamon, Samagi Spice Exports Ltd. also exports pepper, garcinia and areca nut to foreign markets. Samagi Spice Exports Ltd. was able to become number one exporter in the field in the very first year of their entry to the export market and has been able to be the market leader in exporting cinnamon having 30% market share. Their market is predominantly in 23 countries including USA, Mexico, Peru, Nicaragua, Chile and Spain. 

Samagi Spice Exports Ltd. Chairman Janaka Abeyratne commenting on the award stated, “We are absolutely delighted about our ability to have turned down the monopoly exercised in the exportation of cinnamon thus being able to give a higher price to local farmers. We are really happy to have been recognised for our contribution in the export sector as the number one exporter for the fourth time.” 

Samagi Spice Exports Ltd. has won many awards including Matara District Gold Award in at the Mathota Abhiman 2014 and Best Exporter of Southern Province at the Exports Award 2014. They won a Silver Award in Agriculture Bulk Sector at the NCE Awards in 2013 and a Gold Award in Best Performances in Emerging Markets and a Bronze Award in Agriculture Bulk Sector at the NCE Awards in 2015. Janaka Abeyratne won the Young Entrepreneur Gold Award at the FCCISL Awards in 2015.
