Rohitha Thilakaratne elected President of Sri Lanka-Pakistan Business Council

The Sri Lanka-Pakistan Business Council which functions under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce held its 18th Annual General Meeting on 10 June 2011 at the Board Room of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

High Commissioner of Pakistan in Sri Lanka Seema Ilahi Baloch graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Addressing the members she congratulated the Council for completing 20 years and emphasised that by optimising Pakistan-Sri Lanka FTAs, both countries could enhance trade relationships.

Merchant Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. Managing Director Rohitha Thilakaratne was elected as the President of SLPBC for 2011-2012.

The two Vice Presidents are Sega Nagendra of CML-MTD Construction Ltd. and Zahara Cader of Tallman Tours Ltd.

The following were elected to the Executive Committee: Eswaran Brothers Exports (Pvt) Ltd.; Expolanka (Pvt) Ltd.; Habib Bank Ltd.; Hatton National Bank PLC; M.A. Razak & Co. Ltd.; Packages Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.; and Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (Secretariat).

The Sri Lanka-Pakistan Business Council was established in 1991 with a view to promote Trade, Investment, Tourism and Services between two Countries. The delegates from Pakistan, Mohammad Tauseef Zaman, Vice President, Tariq Junaid, Director/Executive Member and Kashif Mahmood Malik, Member of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce, were also amongst the guests.
