Renovation of damaged irrigation network needs Rs. 5 b

The Department of Irrigation will begin renovation of the irrigation network damaged by the recent heavy rains and floods.
The heavy rains last month have damaged 73 large reservoirs and 100 medium scale reservoirs, the Department said. The renovation will be carried out under three stages, according to the Department.
The Director of Water Management of the Irrigation Department Mrs. Janaki Meegasthenna told the national radio that expeditious steps have already been taken to safeguard the cultivations of the farming community.
The official said that around Rs. 5 billion will be required for the complete renovation activities.
