The largest supermarket chain Lanka Sathosa with an island wide network of 310 retail outlets across the country, has joined hands with global personal care giant Reckitt Benckiser to take the retail chain to Rs. 35 billion in 2016. 

Batticaloa district that houses almost a quarter million people received the first supermarket from Lanka Sathosa in the town on Kalavanchchikudi under the direction of the Ministry for Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen who announced that Lanka Sathosa one of the strongest brands in Sri Lanka with a store equity rating of 3.6 will be a profit making venture operationally in the year 2016. “We are committed launching 200 new outlets so that more people will have groceries and essentials at an affordable price on the vision of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe,” he said.

Chairman Dr. Rohantha Athukorala said, “We see the strong interaction between industry and commerce and the government retail chain Lanka Sathosa, whose main agenda is to manage the cost of living in the country by being the price setter for the nation. A once hot bed of terrorism Kalavanchchikudi is today a thriving business community that touched Rs. 400,000 on day number one, demonstrating the potential of this area. We thank the private sector for the support extended reaching the mass of the country.”
