Printcare Universal (Pvt) Ltd., a subsidiary of Printcare PLC, Sri Lanka’s global player in the printing and packaging industry, is the only company in Sri Lanka to be certified for the BRC Global standard for food packaging and packaging materials.

By doing so, Printcare, once again reaffirmed its position as the industry leader by becoming the first company in Sri Lanka to be certified under the latest release of BRC/IOP standard issue 4 under high hygiene risk category.

This category demands the printer to follow the same hygiene standards set for food manufacturers. The certification process was conducted by Det Norske Veritas Italia S.r.l.

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) is one of the leading trade associations in the United Kingdom that represents 80% of the retail trade in the UK. BRC, together with Institute of Packaging UK, responding to industry needs, developed and introduced the BRC Global standard for food packaging and packaging material to be used to evaluate manufacturers of food packaging. The majority of European retailers, and brand owners will only consider business with suppliers who have gained such certification.

“As a member of SEDEX (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange), we are committed to adhere to globally accepted ethical business practices and are also certified for the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System,” stated a company spokesman.

The only printer selected as a Business Superbrand, Printcare is a leader in the printing and packaging industries. Well known for being the global leader in tea bag tags and envelopes, supplying the world’s most reputed tea brands, Printcare is now a diversified Group which is also involved in printing and packaging for the apparel and FMCG sectors, security printing for the lotteries and telecom industries, printing and binding for the publishing industry, and specialised digital media for the education sector.
