‘Plastindia 2012’: Progress through plastics

The Plastindia Foundation (PIF) established in 1987, is the apex body of major Indian associations, organisations, and institutions connected with plastics, with an objective is to promote progress through Plastics and make India the world’s hub for plastic products.

The key focus of the foundation is to facilitate export led growth of the Indian plastic industry and help boost export business volumes and revenues.

The foundation’s vision to be an internationally recognised organisation, devoted to promoting excellence in the field of plastics and in making India a preferred sourcing base in plastics products for the world. It aims to support and encourage development of outstanding institutions committed to education and research, by achieving the highest standards of quality in plastics products and developing effective techniques for their recycling.

The foundation is working towards its mission to enhance the image and growth of the Indian Plastics Industry by holding world-class exhibitions in India once in three years to provide opportunities and demonstrate the industry’s capabilities and participation in international exhibitions.

Plastindia exhibitions began in 1990, as an effort to showcase the capabilities of the growing Indian plastics industry to an international audience, but quickly developed into a meeting point for the global industry. From a less than 20,000 square meters area and 486 exhibitors from 15 countries in 1990, the exhibition grew to more than 77,000 square meters, with 1518 exhibitors from 35 countries in 2009.

The eight edition of Plastindia 2012 (February 1-6, 2012) will be one of the largest shows in the plastics industry globally, with strong international participation is spread over 100,000 sq. mtrs. of area, will have over 1800 exhibitors from over 40 countries and over 150,000 business visitors.

Key attractions for this exhibition:

Infinite business opportunities: The participation from all sectors – raw material, machinery and finished products – will throw open infinite business opportunities.

Proplast: finished goods section, will showcase the forays made by the Indian processed plastics sector.  This will be an eye-opener to many and emphasise India’s position as the world’s sourcing hub for plastics finished products.

Recycling of mixed plastics waste:  Theme Pavilion will show case recycling of mixed plastic waste to make useful end products which are eco friendly.

International conference: the two day affair on sustainability in plastics.  Eminent speakers across the world have been lined up to share their experiences.

The proceeds from this international exhibition will go towards setting up the proposed Plastindia Foundation Knowledge Centre, to be set up at Dungara in Vapi Gujarat, to address the manpower requirements in the executive and management cadres of the growing Indian plastic industry. The centre will be a world-class institute dedicated to plastics and polymers.

The foundation’s vision is to create a pan-India platform to conserve water and increase productivity through the use of micro irrigation systems by deploying plasticulture innovations. This will create a positive impact on the yield of agricultural produce of India.

The launch function at the Taj Samudra featured Indian High Commission Counsellor (Com & Eco) Manish, as Chief Guest, Plastics and Rubber Institute of Sri Lanka President Kirthi Wanasinghe as Guest of Honour, Plastindia 2012 National Executive Committee Chairman Raj Kumar Lohia and Plastindia 2012 International Promotion Committee Member B. Swaminathan.
