The National Transport Commission (NTC) has decided to examine all the luxury buses that ply on the country roads.
The NTC Chairman Roshan Gunawardena said that the NTC had received a large number of complaints from the passengers regarding the poor condition of these luxury buses.
The official said that a large number of luxury buses were old vehicles that had not been properly maintained.
They lacked quality seating and air conditioning etc. Passengers charge that these buses overload passengers during peak hours despite that they charge double the normal bus fare.
National Transport Commission held discussions with the luxury bus operators plying Colombo - Galle road on March 03 and a discussion is scheduled with the Colombo - Kandy bus operators today.
The Commission has decided to examine all the buses at the Bastian Road bus stand and instruct the operators to improve the conditions.
