Nations Trust Bank (NTB) – known for its continuous innovation and dynamism conducted another exciting event for its staff – Nations Amazing Race: Colombo Edition.

The Learning and Development Unit of the Bank partnered with Adventure Dreams Sri Lanka and put together a very successful program full of experiential learning opportunities in a context of teamwork and enjoyment.

180 staff working in 30 teams ran the race-spanning close upon 60Km by foot, in public transport and after the sixth checkpoint by private or hired transport.

NTB Director/CEO Saliya Rajakaruna flagged off the event along with the Head of Human Resources Ramanika Unamboowe.

The race concluded at 6.00p.m. at the NTB State of the Art Processing Centre at Kotehena where the Awards Ceremony took place.

This was the first time an event of this magnitude was organised in Sri Lanka and the enthusiasm among the staff of NTB was tremendous. The Amazing Race tested the teamwork, out of the box thinking, innovative skills, communication and leadership and also the knowledge of the history and culture of the city of Colombo in particular and Sri Lanka in general.

The underlying theme of the event was Proud to be Sri Lankan. Each team comprised of six staff out of which at least two were of the fairer sex.

When the race began the teams received a clue in the form of a riddle and they had to make their way to the correct location. At the correct location they were given the next clue.

There were 12 checkpoints – some of which were merely points at which they received the clue to your next destination and others were activity stations at which the Team had to perform a mentally, physically or even socially challenging task!

The team Sonic, comprising of Lakshitha (leader) Manjula, Sidath, Wathsala, Randini and Arun from the Central Operations unit of the bank emerged champions.

They solved the riddles and puzzles to find all 12 checkpoints, performed all the activities at each checkpoint and reached the last checkpoint first.

The team Asgards – also from Central Operations came in second. All the participants enjoyed themselves immensely and considered it a rare learning opportunity and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
